We aim to establish a foundational education program to foster vaccine literacy among students aspiring to become healthcare professionals in Japan

Vaccine hesitancy and refusal have become one of the most important and debated issues globally in recent years. In 2019, the World Health Organization listed "Vaccine Hesitancy" as one of the top ten global health threats. Japan is among the countries with low trust in vaccines.
Vaccine hesitancy has historical and cultural backgrounds (Opel, 2015), and while effective measures are limited worldwide, education for healthcare providers has proven to be effective. In traditional medical education, topics such as the legal basis for vaccinations, clinical information, vaccination timing, and proper administration methods are taught. However, these programs often leave room for discretion by educational institutions, and there are insufficient opportunities for systematic and comprehensive learning about addressing vaccine hesitancy and communication training. By establishing an academic approach in foundational education from the student stage, we can enhance vaccine literacy and ultimately cultivate professionals who can address vaccine hesitancy among vaccine recipients.
